How We Developed Our Furniture Wax
In 1999 Ken Mac, frustrated with the shortcomings of what was available in the market, developed a scientifically based product to improve on the furniture waxes being offered.
There were many furniture waxes and oils available, but all seemed to fall short of what Ken was looking for to handle all requirements. For example, furniture oils penetrate wood very well, but can ooze in the heat and become sticky, effectively trapping dust. Paste Furniture waxes, on the other hand, can provide an acceptable shine, but require strenuous effort to apply, need frequent polishing and tend to build up over time. Because of their softer formulation, they leave irritating fingerprint marks whenever you touch the surface (try that with young kids around!).
A Unique Blend of Waxes
Using a unique blend of food grade waxes, specially formulated to penetrate porous surfaces such as wood, Ken developed a furniture wax that not only penetrated like an oil, but left a deep healthy wax lustre (patina) on the surface. With his special formulation, he was able to achieve a hard, long lasting finish which didn't collect dust or leave fingermarks, and yet was incredibly easy to apply!
At the heart of Ken's special furniture wax formulation are natural waxes and ingredients. He carefully avoided Silicones (often found in Supermarket furniture products), because they tend to dry wood out, leading to cracking and splitting, also making later restoration efforts almost impossible.
Maxwax is designed to penetrate deep into the wood at the same time leaving a healthy wax film on the surface which develops into a rich patina over a couple of months.
The special formulation of natural waxes and ingredients not only proved to work exceptionally well with wood, but also proved an ideal formulation for other uses as well. For example:
- Cleaning and protecting the interior surfaces of cars (such as dashboards).
- Cleaning the satin finish of stainless steel, making if further resistant to finger marks.
- As a coating to revive and protect tool surfaces (saw blades, for example).
- As a lubricant for tools and drawers that "grab".
- Reviving dull powder coated window frames.
- Cleaning and enhancing granite, stone and terrazzo surfaces.
Other Ways You Can Use Maxwax
Maxwax has also proven itself to be an ideal solution for many different applications.
- As a furniture polish for all wooden (natural, oiled or lacquered) articles.
- Helps hide scratches on wooden and lacquered surfaces.
- As a protective coating for exterior furniture (it won't stop "greying", no clear coating ever will).
- On raw wood to develop natural grain and colour (protect wood from sun to prevent "greying").
- On your BBQ to remove fat splatter and leave non-cook surfaces clean and bright.
- For leather bags, shoes, briefcases, jackets, saddles, etc. (Maxwax will darken some colours so test a small area first before proceeding).
- For hard surface car interiors (doesn't collect dust like silicones).
- Most plastics; radios, stereos, TV's etc.
- Revives paint surfaces that look "flat".
- As a metal coating to help prevent tarnish of copper, brasses and silver.
- To remove sticky labels from bottles.
- On City outdoor furniture and fencing to prevent Grafitti from sticking!

Testimonial
I bought a dining table some 18 months ago. I have found that Maxwax has developed a beautiful patina to the surface and without much effort from me at all."
